Ivan Mestrovic gallery

Ivan Mestrovic gallery

Ivan Meštrović was a Croatian sculptor and architect. He is renowned as one of the greatest sculptors of the 20th century. He was the first living person to have a one-man show at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. He built a summer home on the Marjan peninsula west of Split in the 1920. The villa was built between 1931 and 1939 to an original design by Mestrovic himself, and he was involved right through its construction.

Today there is a museum dedicated to him. The gallery preserves and presents to the public the most significant works of Mestrovic, and is by itself an art monument. The permanent collection includes works of sculpture, drawings, design, furniture and architecture.
